Barrels
Barrels are the perfect garden piece for low maintenance furniture. You will not have to spend a penny on fancy oils, waxes, varnishes or treatments as water is a barrels best friend.
Leave these babies out all year round and let them get nice and saturated!
Things to bare in mind:
In slightly warmer weather (I know, its a rarity in the UK, but we're covering all bases here), your barrel will lose moisture and the bands may loosen. But do not fear! Follow this step by step guide to keeping your seats in tip-top condition during warm (dare I say hot?) weather!
1 - Up-end your barrel.
2 - Grab your garden hose; if you don't have a hose, fill a bucket, watering can or something similar with water.
3 - Fill the end with said water.
You may begin to see water pour or drip through your barrel depending on how hot/dry the weather has been. Let the water seep into the barrel as the wood begins to swell up.
Repeat step 3 until it no longer drips. (2 or 3 buckets normally does the trick- depending on what isze seat you have)
If you have no drippage then, fantastic! Your barrel is perfectly plump!
4 - Gently, lower your seat back down, and enjoy!

Sleeper benches
Sleeper bench care is a nice easy one; If you don't want to do anything, you don't have to.
The beauty of Oak is that it is very hard wearing and weathers beautifully, its why we choose to use it!
However, if you wanted to protect your bench further (or even alter the colour), we would recommend treating it with a high quality Teak oil or something similar. This is a service we can provide on request when purchasing your bench - please ask about the options on enquiry.
Once treated it is important to keep 'topping up' your bench. This could be with regular treatments, or, instead of wiping down your table with a damp cloth, you can use an oily rag/cloth.
When the weather turns and your bench is rained on for the first time, you may notice an almost rust-like substance seeping out of your bench; this is the tannins in the oak escaping through new exit points (fixing holes). This can gather around the fittings.
This is easy to clean with warm soapy water and a cloth or small brush.
There you have it, complete bench care!
